Canonical released Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, named Resolute Raccoon, on 23 April 2026. Its announcement includes expanded provisions for AI development and infrastructure, including CUDA and ROCm packages, alongside Arm64 Livepatch support.

For teams maintaining server environments, a new LTS release starts an evaluation cycle. The relevant question is whether the complete application and operating stack is ready to run on it within the required support arrangement.

A release needs a local acceptance decision

We would begin with a representative workload and its dependencies: drivers, storage, networking, monitoring, backup agents and deployment tooling. Successful installation establishes only the first part of that evidence. Restoration, maintenance and the ability to reverse a failed migration also need a place in qualification.

Where several teams share responsibility, the acceptance record should say who checked each dependency and which limitations remain. That makes a staged rollout easier to review and gives operators a usable record when the environment later changes.

Availability and support commitments should be confirmed with the relevant operating provider. A documented qualification result then gives the customer and the delivery team a shared basis for scheduling the migration.
